The Holy Month of Ramadan has officially begun in Nigeria as the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III, declared Saturday, March 1, 2025, as the first day of fasting.

Announcing from his palace on Friday evening, the revered Islamic leader confirmed that the crescent moon had been sighted earlier in the day, marking the end of Shaban and the commencement of Ramadan 1446. Reports of the moon’s appearance from various regions were thoroughly verified and authenticated by the council before the official declaration.
With this confirmation, millions of Muslims across Nigeria will embark on the sacred month of fasting, prayers, and spiritual reflection. The Sultan urged the faithful to seize the opportunity to strengthen their devotion, seek divine blessings, and offer prayers for the peace and prosperity of the nation.
He also emphasized the significance of charity during Ramadan, encouraging well-to-do individuals to extend support to the less privileged, ensuring that everyone can partake in the blessings of the fasting period.
Muslims nationwide will now observe the dawn-to-dusk fast, engage in fervent prayers, and uphold the traditions of Ramadan, as they join the global Islamic community in this sacred spiritual journey.
