The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers in possession of two locally made guns and a stolen motorcycle in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmad Wakil, confirmed the arrest to journalists on Sunday in Bauchi.

He explained that the incident happened around 5:00 a.m. on Saturday after police received a distress call from a resident of the Gandum Wambai area of Azare.

“The caller reported that armed individuals had invaded his business premises, GKY Food and Oil Mills, and fled with a motorcycle after threatening the occupants with firearms,” Wakil said.

According to him, officers from the Azare Divisional Police Headquarters immediately swung into action in collaboration with local vigilantes. Their swift response led to the arrest of the suspects at Lafiya village, along the Lafiya–Gwasame road.

“Acting promptly, operatives from the Azare Divisional Police Headquarters, working alongside local vigilantes, launched a pursuit that led to the arrest of the suspects at Lafiya village along the Lafiya–Gwasame road.

“Items recovered from them include two locally made guns and the stolen Bajaj motorcycle,” Wakil added.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, praised the officers and members of the vigilance group for their quick and coordinated efforts in apprehending the suspects.

“He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining proactive measures against crime and ensuring the protection of lives and property across the State,” the statement said.

Wakil further disclosed that investigations are ongoing to determine whether the arrested suspects are connected to a larger criminal network.

He urged residents to remain alert and continue to report suspicious movements or criminal activities to help the police maintain safety and security in the state.
