Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has sparked online reactions after offering a N1 million reward to anyone who can identify the individual behind a disturbing post about Peter Obi’s wife and children.
The controversy began after a user with the X handle Olori Alayiuwa shared a photo of Peter Obi’s wife, Margaret, with the caption: “You see this woman? PO will bury her with her children.”
Reacting to the post, Omokri took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a screenshot of the message and issue a public appeal.
“Dear Citizens of Nigeria, please, can you, as a patriot and lover of justice, help reveal the identity of this person? For making such a threat against Peter Obi’s wife and children, he or she must be prosecuted for such a statement. I have experienced this first-hand when the same threat was made against my then one-year-old daughter. We shall not tolerate this in Nigeria.
“I offer a reward of N1 million to anyone who can expose this person.
“I am prepared to IMMEDIATELY release the money to an independent third party to hold in trust until verifiable information that leads to the unmasking of this individual is provided. Do not worry, your identity will be protected.
“We must rid Nigeria of this type of toxicity. Our society will not devalue human life because of politics.”
Omokri, a known critic of the Labour Party former presidential candidate, has frequently clashed with Obi’s supporters online. Despite this, his call for justice over the offensive comment drew mixed reactions.
One user wrote, “Sarcasm at its peak.”
Another added, “Too much to say about someone’s life. Why do people hide behind the keys to type nonsense?”
Skepticism also trailed the move, with one commenter stating, “But we all know you don’t like them na, so what’s this?”
Another wrote, “Reno Omokri 😂😂😂😂😂😂 you want to change the stories.”
A more provocative response read: “Na you write this thing with your minor fan account, Chi will reveal your face soon Reno.”
Peter Obi, the former Anambra State governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has not responded to the post as of press time.
