Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has cautioned against attempts to manipulate the 2027 general elections, insisting that Nigerians must be allowed to freely choose their leaders.
Obi spoke on Thursday during a town hall meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he stressed the importance of ensuring that every vote cast by Nigerians is properly counted.
The former Anambra State governor warned those who may attempt to interfere with the electoral process, saying Nigerians would not tolerate a situation where their votes are disregarded.
“Our votes this time must count, and whoever doesn’t count them, we will count the person.
“Today, people sit in their houses to outsource campaigns to other people. We have heard enough of this nonsense. All these threats will come to an end.
“We want to speak with you, we want to answer your questions. Leadership cannot be outsourced.”
Obi also maintained that Nigerians have the right to examine the background and character of individuals seeking public office before deciding whether to support them.
He challenged anyone with allegations against him to make them public, saying he was prepared to respond to any genuine concerns raised about his record.

“I’m challenging any Nigerian, both at home and abroad, or anyone around the world: if you have anything against me, say it out now.
“When I took somebody to court, I only did that because he said he had something he would say against me that the whole world would be shocked,” Obi said.
