The Oyo State Government has received two security surveillance aircraft procured to strengthen intelligence gathering and improve the fight against crime across the state.
The aircraft arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan on Tuesday and are expected to enhance aerial surveillance, intelligence operations and rapid response to security threats within Oyo and neighbouring states.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Ibadan, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, said the arrival of the aircraft represents another milestone in the state’s efforts to improve security.
“The arrival of the aircraft marks another step in the state’s efforts to strengthen security operations through improved intelligence gathering and aerial surveillance.
“Governor Seyi Makinde had, on July 18, 2026, confirmed that the aircraft arrived in Nigeria and were undergoing reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force’s hangar in Lagos.
“The State Government had, about a week earlier, assured residents that the aircraft would arrive in Oyo before the end of July, adding that the latest development fulfilled that commitment.
“The aircraft are expected to support security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps and other relevant formations, in monitoring criminal activities and improving response efforts across the state,” he said.

Oyelade added that Governor Seyi Makinde was present at the airport to receive the aircraft.
The state government had announced plans to acquire the surveillance aircraft on July 8, 2025, as part of efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of security agencies in addressing emerging security challenges.
The delivery follows months after Makinde disclosed that his administration was investing in modern aerial surveillance platforms to support the fight against kidnapping, banditry and other forms of criminality across Oyo State.
