Former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Zaynab-Otiti Obanor, was endowed with the “Humanitarian of the Year” award from “Kechie’s Project” at an event during the UN General Assembly week.
She shared the news on her Instagram page with the caption: “Her Highness Queen Zaynab awarded ‘Humanitarian of the Year’ by Kechie’s Project during UN Week in New York, for her outstanding contributions to women and children across the globe.

Also awarded at the event were CNN anchor, Don Lemon; and former Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
In her acceptance speech,the queen dedicated the award to women who refused to be tamed and pursue their goals the hurdles notwithstanding.
She says’ “I accept this award for women, home and abroad- who refuse to be tamed and live their life unapologetically and get up after every stumble.
You will fall. You will fail. You will be Ridiculed and you will be shamed.
For choosing the road less traveled. For choosing the path to liberation. For choosing to rise above.
For choosing to walk away from abuse of any kind. It is not an easy path. I’m here with you in prayer and in spirit.
