One person was killed on Tuesday when a gang of robbers attacked a Wema Bank branch in Iju town, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo.
Police have identified the deceased was identified as a female official of the bank.
Two other persons were injured in the attack which reportedly lasted for more than 30 minutes.
The bandits, who stormed the bank located along Akure-Ado Ekiti expressway around 2:30 pm, took an undisclosed amount of money away.
Confirming the incident Ondo police spokesman, Femi Joseph, said policemen were on the trail of the robbers and normalcy had returned to the area
“We can confirm that one person died in the operation. Our men engaged them in a shoot-out, they had to abandon the vehicle they brought to the area and ran into the bush.
“Our men are already combing the bush and I am sure they would be arrested. We have commenced an investigation into the incident.” Mr Joseph said.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the General Hospital, Iju while the injured were receiving treatment at the hospital as of Tuesday evening.
