Fourteen worshippers abducted during an attack on a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) crusade in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, have been released after spending more than two months in captivity.

The development was revealed by counter-insurgency and security analyst Zagazola Makama, who covers security issues in the Lake Chad region.

According to Makama, the victims regained their freedom around midnight on Friday, July 3, 2026. They have since been taken to a hospital, where they are receiving treatment and undergoing medical evaluation following their prolonged captivity.

The report stated that one of the 15 worshippers kidnapped during the incident died while being held by the abductors, while the remaining victims were released in poor physical and emotional condition.

The worshippers were kidnapped on April 28, 2026, after suspected gunmen invaded an open-air crusade organised by the Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti.

During the attack, the officiating pastor was reportedly killed, while 15 members of the congregation were taken away to an unknown destination.

Makama said, “One of the 15 abducted worshippers died while in captivity. The remaining victims are said to be in critical physical and emotional condition following their ordeal.”

Authorities have yet to release an official statement explaining the circumstances surrounding the victims’ release or identifying those responsible for the abduction.
