Nollywood star Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has reacted to years of speculation suggesting she was once at odds with fellow actress Genevieve Nnaji, firmly stating that no such feud ever existed.
For a long time, fans and industry observers have believed both movie icons were not on good terms. However, Omotola has now addressed the narrative, explaining that the rumours were largely driven by public perception rather than reality.
Speaking during an interview on Yanga FM, the actress made it clear that although she and Genevieve were not close friends, there was never any hostility between them. According to her, “people don’t need to be best friends.”
She blamed fans for creating an imagined rivalry, saying, “Na them start the quarrel before we know say we dey quarrel. So, we have to catch up with the quarrel. There was no quarrel.”
When asked by the interviewer, “Was there anything like say una been quarrel wey lasted for twenty years before EJ movie?” Omotola reiterated that their relationship behind the scenes was normal.
“People don’t need to be best friends, but we talked. Like behind film, we dey talk normally,” she said.
Omotola further explained that the situation was similar to how fans often pitch music stars against one another. “You know the same thing that they do with all these music stars, na we dem take start all those things that time. Na we be the practice that time. You know all this Wizkid, Davido now that they have taken to different level, na we be the first one now,” she noted.

Reaffirming her stance, she added, “Really, na them start the quarrel before we know say we dey quarrel. So, we have to catch up with the quarrel. There was no quarrel.”
The actress also pointed out that competition in the industry naturally creates tension that is often misinterpreted. “We were young, everybody dey do her own thing now. You know how the industry is. You know, them go pitch you against this person, talk say na this one be the hottest girl, na that one be the hottest girl. So, those kind tension go dey normally, but people they read am as other things.”
Her comments have offered fresh clarity on a long-debated topic in Nollywood, debunking claims of any personal rift between the two celebrated actresses.
