Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been honoured with the distinguished chieftaincy title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.

She arrived at the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife around 1 PM on Sunday, welcomed by the monarch and his chiefs amid heightened security and a festive atmosphere.

The installation took place at the Palace Square as part of the events marking the Ooni’s 10th coronation anniversary. The ceremony attracted prominent traditional rulers and dignitaries from across Yorubaland and beyond, including the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III; the Sultan of Sokoto; and the Soun of Ogbomoso.

The title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua is steeped in history and cultural relevance. It was formerly held by the late Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, wife of renowned nationalist Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and is bestowed in recognition of leadership, influence, and impactful contributions within the Yoruba cultural space.

This latest honour adds to the series of traditional titles Senator Tinubu has received across Nigeria this year, further highlighting her growing presence and influence in cultural and social spheres.
