Nigerian Army Foils Bandit Attack In Taraba State

In a well-coordinated operation, troops of the Nigerian Army successfully thwarted a planned banditry attack in Taraba State, according to a statement released by Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, on Thursday.

Acting on credible intelligence regarding an impending terrorist attack on villages in the southern part of the state, troops from the 6 Brigade Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) carried out swift patrols, ambushes, and covert operations on December 11, 2024.

Two suspected terrorists, Terry Waapara and Tobaya Tekura, were apprehended in Adu village while attempting to infiltrate the Chachanji market, allegedly planning kidnappings and other criminal activities.

Recovered items during the operation included:

  • Two AK-47 rifles
  • Two AK-47 magazines
  • 26 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their vigilance and professionalism.

He also assured the residents of Taraba State that the Nigerian Army remains committed to combating terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities.

General Uwa acknowledged the vital role of citizen cooperation, urging law-abiding individuals to continue providing credible information to ensure the nation’s safety.
