President Bola Tinubu, in his inaugural Independence Day address as president, acknowledged the hardships that Nigerians were experiencing due to the policies his administration had implemented.

He reassured the nation that his government was actively working to alleviate the difficulties faced by citizens and emphasized that all the promises he had made were being diligently pursued.

The president recognized the challenges brought about by the discontinuation of the fuel subsidy but emphasized that such reforms were necessary to lead the country toward prosperity and growth. He stated that while reforms might be painful, they were essential for the nation’s progress and a better future.

President Tinubu also made a comparison, describing those who advocated for maintaining the fuel subsidy and flawed foreign exchange policies as individuals willing to build their homes on unstable ground, while he sought to establish a stable foundation for the nation’s future.

He emphasized his commitment to ensuring that the wealth of the nation was equitably distributed among all Nigerians, rather than being concentrated in the hands of a select few.

His vision was for a Nigeria where hunger, poverty, and hardship became remnants of the past.

The president concluded by acknowledging the challenges faced by the people and expressing his desire that such difficulties did not exist.

Nevertheless, he stressed the importance of enduring these hardships to reach a brighter future for Nigeria, where the burdens of the past would be lifted, and prosperity would prevail.
