The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has issued a response to social media allegations surrounding the alleged arrest and detention of the late artiste, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
In the wake of Mohbad’s passing, there were circulating claims that he had been apprehended and held in custody by the NDLEA in February 2022, during which he was purportedly administered a harmful substance.
However, in a letter dated September 28, 2023, and signed by the Deputy Commander-General of Narcotics, Josephine Obi, the NDLEA unequivocally clarified that Mohbad was never arrested nor detained by the agency on the specified date or any other date before or after it.
The NDLEA further emphasized that the allegation of the agency administering any substance to him did not hold any truth.
On Friday, the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, Owohunwa, reassured the public that the police would persist in their determination to seek justice in this case.
He also pledged to keep the public informed of any developments related to the autopsy and toxicology reports, advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), feedback from the NDLEA, and any other progress in the ongoing investigation.
In response to this development, the NDLEA’s spokesperson issued a statement on Saturday, affirming that the agency had indeed dispatched its response by flight to Lagos, and the police had received it on Thursday, September 28, 2023.
The statement further stated, “To underscore our commitment to addressing this matter seriously, our formal response, dated Thursday, September 28, 2023, was sent by air to Lagos and was successfully delivered and received by the police on the same day, September 28th.”
