Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and one of the candidates in the recently concluded Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) presidential election, Akinboro Olumuyiwa, has rejected the outcome of the poll, describing it as the worst election ever conducted by the association.
Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, was declared winner of the July 19 election after polling 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 per cent of the total votes cast.
However, speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Tuesday, Olumuyiwa alleged that the election was riddled with irregularities, insisting that the voting process was compromised from the onset.
According to him, the election platform failed shortly after voting commenced, disrupting the process and affecting candidates.
“This is the worst of all the elections we have been having in NBA. Take for example, the election was supposed to commence by 12 midnight, within 30 minutes the site crashed and my name did not come out as my name. My picture was not in the ballot.
Olumuyiwa also questioned the explanation given by the organisers, who attributed the disruption to a cyberattack.

“They suddenly shut down and later told me that it was a cyber attack. Cyber attack will not change what has been inputted in the system. It can only shut down the system.”
The senior lawyer said the confusion surrounding the exercise forced many participants to abandon the process after being informed that voting had been suspended.
“From midnight, I went to sleep around 6:30 am and what they said was that the election was suspended. A lot of people went to sleep. They woke me up again and said the election is on.”
Olumuyiwa maintained that the conduct of the election fell short of expectations, reiterating his dissatisfaction with the process that produced the NBA’s new leadership.
