Comedienne and actress, Helen Paul, has revealed that her mother conceived her after she was raped.
The 41-year-old disclosed this as she dedicated her PhD degree to her mother via an Instagram post on Friday.
“I HELEN PAUL dedicate this to my mum, you gave birth to me out of rape, they told you I wouldn’t amount to anything.
“I grew up hearing from family members; being called a “Bastard” and each time I asked you, you said (Olorun lon wo omo werey, Olorun ma wo e meaning God watches of the child of a mad person, he’d watch over you)
“Mummy I want to know I love you, I might not buy you Benz now because I don’t have a Pant yet but this certificate will amount to something great
,” she wrote in parts.
Helen Paul celebrated her convocation from the Creative Arts department of the University of Lagos after bagging a Ph.D on Thursday.
Helen Paul has repeatedly expressed her excitement at being the first Nigerian stand-up comedian to bag a Ph.D.
She began her career as a freelance and full-time presenter at several media houses in Nigeria. These include Lagos Television (LTV 8), Continental Broadcasting Service (CBS), and MNet.
