Gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has appealed to Nigerians for understanding after her comments on the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State triggered widespread reactions online.

The singer addressed the controversy in a video shared on social media, saying she was hurt to discover that many people felt offended by her remarks.

According to Alaseyori, her intention was never to dismiss the suffering of the victims or undermine public concerns over insecurity in the country.

“I did a video two days ago about the kidnapped children, touching on government, parastatals and every agency. But when I woke up yesterday, I found out that some well-meaning Nigerians were not happy about it, as I made them feel their voices are unheard,” she said.

The singer explained that she values the feelings of Nigerians, especially parents affected by the ongoing security crisis, and pleaded for forgiveness from anyone who felt hurt by her statement.

“You know me too well that I would never make you feel like that. Mothers, do not be offended. I am sorry. I beg in God’s name. Please, forgive me. I would never think like that. Pardon and forgive me,” she said.

The backlash followed a video in which Alaseyori encouraged Nigerians to pray for the country and expressed confidence that government officials and security agencies were making efforts to tackle insecurity and rescue kidnapped victims.

Her comments generated mixed reactions, with critics arguing that prayer should be accompanied by decisive action from authorities to address the security challenges facing the nation.

The discussion comes amid growing concern over the kidnapping of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, an incident that has sparked calls for stronger security measures and urgent intervention to secure the victims’ release.
