Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who treated late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has revealed that he started vomiting after she administered a tetanus injection.
Testifying before Justice C.A. Shotobi at the Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Friday, Ogedengbe stated that Mohbad developed goosebumps, a reaction his wife, Omowunmi, described as normal for him.
She recalled being contacted by Ayobami Sodiq (Spending) on September 12, 2024, to treat Mohbad at his Lekki residence. Upon arrival, she noticed a swollen cut on his right hand and proceeded to administer a tetanus shot. Since Mohbad had an ulcer, she opted for paracetamol instead of diclofenac.
According to Ogedengbe, she injected him with 4ml of paracetamol diluted with 1ml of water and a slow 10ml dose of ceftriaxone for bacterial infection. Shortly after receiving the ceftriaxone, Mohbad began feeling discomfort and went to vomit.
“After vomiting in the toilet, he returned and sat on the floor. That was when I noticed the goosebumps,” she said, adding that four people, including Mohbad, his wife, and Ayobami, were present.
She asked Omowunmi why she hadn’t mentioned his usual reaction to injections, but before getting an answer, Omowunmi began pouring water on Mohbad’s head in the bathroom.
Realising the severity of the situation, Ogedengbe and Ayobami rushed to a pharmacy for medication to counter the allergic reaction. However, they faced delays before eventually obtaining hydrocortisone and normal saline.
“By the time we returned, Mohbad was already outside the house, and preparations were underway to take him to the hospital. Due to traffic and a lack of vehicles, he was taken on a motorcycle but was declared dead on arrival,” she narrated.
She further disclosed that medical personnel initially hesitated to treat him upon arrival at the hospital. His body was later taken back home around 8 pm, and they proceeded to the Orchid Lekki Police Station for a death certificate before being referred to the Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah.
Following cross-examination by the legal representatives of Mohbad’s family, Omowunmi, and the state, the case was adjourned to March 21, 2024, for further hearing.
In February 2025, the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions stated that Ogedengbe and Sodiq would be prosecuted for reckless and negligent acts under Section 251 (e) of the Lagos Criminal Law, 2015.
Meanwhile, the court cleared music star Naira Marley, promoter Sam Larry, Primeboy, and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde, of any wrongdoing.
