Manager Pep Guardiola revealed following Manchester City’s emphatic 8-0 victory over Salford City in the FA Cup on Saturday captain Kyle Walker has expressed his desire to leave the club.

The 34-year-old right-back was absent from Guardiola’s squad for the third-round tie, with the manager explaining that Walker requested to “explore options abroad.”
“Two days ago, Kyle Walker asked to explore the options of playing abroad and ending his career. And for that reason, I preferred playing other players,” Guardiola stated.
The England international, who joined City from Tottenham Hotspur in 2017 for £50 million, was previously linked with a move to Bayern Munich after the club’s historic treble-winning campaign in 2023.
“He asked two years ago after the treble, Bayern Munich wanted him, but the offer was not good enough,” Guardiola added.
Legacy at City
Kyle Walker has been a pivotal figure for Manchester City, making 319 appearances and playing an instrumental role in the club’s success, including six Premier League titles and their maiden Champions League triumph.
“We cannot understand the success we have had these years without Kyle. It’s impossible,” Guardiola remarked. “He’s been important for the national team and for us. I respect him a lot and am more than grateful for everything he’s done.”
Reduced Role and Potential Move
Walker’s playing time has diminished this season, with only nine Premier League starts. Speculation is rife that his next destination could be Saudi Arabia, as the league continues to attract high-profile players nearing the twilight of their careers.
Guardiola emphasized that Walker’s request does not guarantee his departure, noting, “It doesn’t mean it’s going to happen because you never know the situation.”
City fans await further developments as one of their most decorated players considers the next chapter of his career.
