The Oonirisa, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi and his queens are getting all the attention as they celebrated this year’s Valentine’s Day in grand style.
The monarch, who, in September 2022, welcomed Queen Mariam nee Anako into the palace amidst pomp, is officially married to six wives.
The weddings took place after former queen Naomi announced her separation with the monarch on Thursday, December 23, 2021, thus ending a marriage that produced a son, Tadenikawo, and lasted about three years.
Naomi Silekunola renounced the title of a ‘Queen’, saying she tried to make the three-year union work but the Ooni’s public identity is at variance with “his true self”.
However, after the split between 47-year-old Ooni and Naomi, many Yoruba monarchs and elders including the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, tried to reconcile the estranged couple but the peace talks did not yield results.
But then, the Ooni of Ife has accepted fate and now enjoying his harem.
For a husband of six legal wives and some other ladies still in the palace, the monarch had an exceptional Valentine’s Day celebration.
Since this month wears the toga of love, it also marked the fourth month wedding anniversary of the queens he married legally in October 2022.
Not a few were surprised when Queen Ashley quickly released a video reminding everyone that her October 14 wedding had clocked four month old on Valentine’s Day.
Sharing a video from their wedding, Queen Ashley revealed why she is blessed to be married to the Ooni.
Queen Ashley appreciated him for loving her unconditionally amidst everything, protecting her, taking care of her and lots more.
She added that if did anything right in her life, it is given her heart to him.
Making a lifetime commitment, Queen Ashley promised to always love him without any reservations.
“Dagunduro Oko Folasade, Otiti Arinkilemi it’s been four beautiful months and forever to go with you my darling husband, the love of my life. The way you call out my full name always reminds me of my late father of blessed memory, who led our paths together. I am so blessed to have you as my husband, you make me so happy with endless joy and smiles on my face everytime 8? With you or the thought of you. I pray for many more years together in health, wealth and more beautiful children lase Eledumare,” she captioned the video.
Meanwhile, prior to her Valentine’s Day post, Ashley was seen in a video where she prayed for her husband and informed all present that she would still have twins in the palace where all the princes and princesses would pay obeisance to the king.
For Queen Mariam, Valentine’s Day must have been spent with her husband in Lagos. Why? She was at an event in Ijebu Ode on Sunday, February 12, 2022 and was in hurry to head back home. According to sources, she kept saying her husband was at home and she needed to return to Lagos to attend to his needs.
Though she had been active on social media since her marriage to the Ooni of Ife, Queen Tobi Phillips-Ogunwusi shut down on social media four days before Valentine’s Day. She didn’t post anything about her husband which has become her primary assignment since she got the ring four months ago.
For Queen Tobi Phillips-Ogunwusi, life took another turn when she became the wife of the controversial monarch. She became sought after by many who wanted to know more about her and her life with the king.
During her interview with TVC in December 2022, she revealed how she met the Ooni.
“That year, I was praying to God that I wanted to get married. Then somebody called me and asked if I wanted to get married to the Ooni of Ife. He later introduced me to him but I didn’t take it seriously. But then, we started dating but there were too many interference and we didn’t get married. That was quite devastating for me. I always promised myself that I would marry who I love. I love him and he has some values about who I wanted to marry,” she disclosed.
A former beauty queen, Tobi Phillips has said she would not be offended if the Ooni decides to marry more wives.
Describing how she would react if Oba Ogunwusi takes more wives, Queen Phillips-Ogunwusi said she knows the Ooni is a traditionalist so she would not feel “too offended.”
“Naturally if you know who you are you won’t be so bothered by being in a group (of women). Also if you have your personality outside being somebody’s wife you won’t feel too offended,” she said.
“Knowing that being in this marriage, he (the Ooni) is a traditionalist he has a right to choose many women if he chooses to we already know that so I don’t think it should bother anyone.”
For Queen Tope Adesegun, life as a queen comes with enormous task considering the fact that she runs Hope Alive Initiative Poverty Alleviation Advocacy that is powered by the House of Odua inspired by the Ooni. She has been lying low and tongues are wagging that she is expecting her babies too.“It seems she is on a nine-month course and has been off social media for a while,” a source told Kemiashefonloehaven.
The same story seems to be hovering around 50-something-year-old Queen Ronke Ademiluyi. Her glow nowadays is raising suspicion. Does she want to go on a nine-month course too? Time will tell.
