Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman marked his debut for Atletico Madrid with a goal and an assist on Thursday as his new club thrashed Real Betis 5-0 in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals.
The 28-year-old, who joined Atletico from Atalanta in a €35 million transfer on Monday, quickly justified coach Diego Simeone’s faith. Lookman opened the scoring in the 37th minute with a brilliant solo effort.
He received a cross-field pass during a counter-attack, skillfully maneuvered past two defenders, and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper’s near post, giving Atletico a 3-0 lead at halftime.

The strike also marked Lookman’s 100th career goal and continued his remarkable record of scoring on his debut for a club—this being the third consecutive club, following RB Salzburg and Atalanta.
In addition to his goal, Lookman provided an assist, contributing to Atletico Madrid’s commanding victory and securing their place in the Copa del Rey semi-finals—a competition the club has not won in 12 years. The team will learn their semi-final opponent on Friday.
