The management of Lagos State University (LASU) has commenced disciplinary proceedings following an alleged assault involving one of its students at a privately owned hostel in Ikeja, Lagos.
The incident came to public attention on Friday after a 28-second video surfaced on X showing an unidentified woman physically assaulting a female student.
In the footage, the woman was seen slapping, kicking and stepping on the student while making threatening remarks.
“You slapped me back. It shall not be well with you. Go and call your police. This girl is mad,” the woman said.
“It shall not be well with you, you must be stupid, I will tell you the kind of person that I am.”
Reacting to the incident, LASU said the alleged assault occurred outside the university’s campus and involved a student residing at a privately owned hostel.
In a statement issued on Friday, Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of the university’s Centre for Information and Public Relations, condemned the incident and reiterated that violence, harassment and intimidation would not be tolerated.
According to the university, the student had reported the matter to the police and the incident had been “addressed through appropriate law enforcement authorities”.
“Nevertheless, the university has initiated due disciplinary processes in line with its established rules and regulations,” the statement reads.
“Any form of assault, intimidation, or harassment of students, staff, or visitors, whether within or outside the University premises, is unacceptable and goes against the core values upon which this institution was founded.”

Thomas-Onashile urged students to exercise caution and conduct themselves responsibly to avoid circumstances that could put their safety at risk.
She also called on parents to work with the institution by respecting its procedures and encouraging their children and wards to demonstrate discipline and integrity.
The university further reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare and safety of its students while supporting their academic progress.
