Minister of information and culture Lai Mohammed has described as “fake news” reports that he asked nightlife entrepreneur Obi Iyiegbu aka Obi Cubana to loan Nigeria some money.

Obi Cubana’s mother’s funeral last week saw what many have described as a rain of cash, prompting suggestions that the Cubana Group chairman should lend Nigeria money and stop the nation from more indebtedness to China.

Mr Mohammed, on Sunday, placed a ‘Fake News’ stamp on a news report claiming that he asked Obi Cubana for money.

Part of the report published by an online medium read, “Obi Cubana has this kind of money and Nigeria is borrowing money from China. Cubana should borrow us money, Nigeria is collapsing- Lai Mohammed.”

Nigeria’s debt has risen by N20.8tn to N32.92tn since President Muhammadu Buhari took office in 2015.
