The Lagos State Police Command has announced that its investigation into sexual assault and murder allegations against Chris Okafor will be temporarily suspended, pending the conclusion of a separate, higher-level inquiry by the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The allegations surfaced earlier this month amid public outrage over claims circulating on social media targeting Okafor, founder of Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries. An anonymous individual, reportedly hiding in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, alleged that Okafor had hired them to carry out murders.
In response to the claims, Olohundare Jimoh, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti to initiate a probe. He also noted that a petition regarding the matter had been filed at the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police and subsequently transferred to Zone 2 Command in Abuja for a parallel investigation. Police further confirmed that immediate security measures were put in place for the alleged victims.
Following the issuance of an arrest warrant, Okafor voluntarily surrendered to police authorities.
However, in an update on Thursday, Lagos police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi stated that the SCID’s investigation is currently on hold because “all the complainants we have been calling on have refused to show up.” She explained that the Lagos command cannot run a simultaneous investigation alongside Zone 2, which is now managing the case under the IGP’s supervision.
Adebisi added that Okafor was released on “personal recognition” to ensure that the ongoing investigation at the IGP-monitored level proceeds without obstruction.

She told TheCable Lifestyle: “There has not been further investigation from the command. I do not know if you are aware that he was invited. They came around, and that was when we discovered that he had similar petitions which they are still under investigation.
“So, the CP directed that we should halt. When it is done with them in Zone 2, we will reopen ours.
“And all the complainants we have been calling on have refused to show up. For now, we are not pressing further. We are not pushing the complainants further.
“We just wait. And when zone 2 is done, then we will wait for the outcome. And we will know the next line of action.
“He was released on self-recognition to proceed to zone 2 for further investigation there.”
The recent anonymous claims are linked to earlier allegations made by actress Doris Ogala, who had accused Okafor of involvement in the poisoning and death of her brother.
