The Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reopened Ladipo Market in Mushin.
The reopening of the market comes after it was recently closed due to various environmental infractions.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, made the announcement.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining a clean environment, public health, and safety in line with the THEMES Plus agenda. The recent drive to enforce strict compliance with waste management best practices across markets in the state was part of this effort.
The Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, also affirmed the authority’s dedication to environmental sustainability and public safety.
He stressed the importance of adhering to environmental laws in all markets across the state to ensure a safer and healthier business environment.
Ladipo Market was initially sealed on October 9, 2023, due to sanitation issues and environmental abuse. The market was reopened after the traders complied with the necessary conditions set by the government.
