The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has said that pursuing legal action against singer Simi over allegations of child sexual abuse would be challenging without a complainant coming forward.
The controversy erupted after Simi took to her X account to call for rapists to be “castrated and burnt alive,” following public outrage over claims by a TikToker, Mirabel, who alleged she was sexually assaulted in her home.
The situation intensified when unverified reports emerged online suggesting that Mirabel had recanted her initial statement. This led social media users to revisit Simi’s old tweets, sparking renewed criticism of the singer.
Among the resurfaced posts were tweets from 2012 referencing a four-year-old who had a crush on her, including statements such as the child “acting like he wana loc lip” and joking about him “trying to put hand inside my shet.”
Responding to the backlash on Monday, Simi insisted the tweets were never intended to be perverse and were being taken out of context.
Speaking with Channels TV, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, executive secretary of the Lagos DSVA, said that while the agency has a duty to investigate, moving forward with prosecution would be “very difficult” without a victim.
“The truth of the matter is that it’s going to be very difficult to prosecute the lady without a survivor being present, a victim of whatever it is, whether it’s sexual abuse, rape, defilement, or sexual assault by provocation,” she explained.

Vivour-Adeniyi added, “It’s to start the process, encourage anybody who has allegedly been sexually assaulted by Simi to please come forward and ensure that their statement is taken, and then we know where we are going on the matter.”
She also revealed that the agency has referred the case to the state police for further investigation. Earlier, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) had announced plans to probe the allegations as well.
