The Lagos State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has officially named its newly completed permanent secretariat after Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, almost three decades after operating without a central administrative office.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the association announced that the facility, now known as the Senator Oluremi Tinubu CAN Lagos State Secretariat, located in Alausa, Ikeja, was formally inaugurated by the National President of CAN, Daniel Okoh.

Speaking at the event, Okoh commended the Lagos chapter for its resilience and dedication in bringing the long-awaited project to fruition.

“I urge all members to remain united and dedicated to the work of Christian leadership in Lagos State,” the CAN President said.

Represented at the ceremony, the First Lady expressed her goodwill, describing the completion of the building as a major milestone for Christians in the state.

“The completion of the secretariat ends years of dispute over the land and marks the beginning of a new chapter for Christians in Lagos State,” she said.

One floor of the complex was named in honour of Iya Aladura General, Dr. Oluwaseye Yomi-Sholoye, in recognition of her substantial financial contribution to the project. The founder of The New Seraph Evangelical Ministries described the edifice as a suitable home for Christian administration.

“For about three decades, CAN did not have a befitting secretariat. Today, we have a beautiful structure that will lift the work of God to the next level. It is God’s doing,” Yomi-Sholoye said.

The building project was completed under the leadership of His Lordship, Rt. Rev. S.T.V. Adegbite, with the foundation stone laid on February 17, 2024. Prominent Christian leaders in attendance included the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Alfred Adewale Martins, alongside clerics from various denominations.

The secretariat complex also features multiple facilities named after notable figures, including the main office block dedicated to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Bishop Stephen Adegbite Hall and Event Centre, and the CAN Chairman’s office named after Senator Tokunbo Abiru.

Addressing attendees, Rt. Rev. Adegbite said, “This secretariat is a symbol of unity and administrative strength. It belongs to all Christians in Lagos State. I urge members to take ownership of the facility and ensure its proper maintenance.”

The Lagos CAN secretariat joins several public projects recently named after the First Lady since the inauguration of President Bola Tinubu in May 2023. These include the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Renewed Hope Resettlement City in Keffi, Nasarawa State; the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Dream Centre at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; and the Oluremi Tinubu Leather Hub in Lagos.

Following the commissioning, the association held its 2026 Annual Interdenominational Divine Service, themed “Immanuel: God With Us” (Matthew 1:23), at The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Olorunda, Ketu. During the service, Rev. Dr. Ezekiel Omidina encouraged Christians to remain steadfast despite economic and social challenges, while prayers were offered for peace, unity, and national progress.

The unveiling of the new secretariat marks a historic milestone, providing Lagos CAN with a permanent administrative base for the first time in nearly 30 years.
