The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has alerted motorists to major traffic disruptions ahead of planned reconstruction works along the Super-Ilepo stretch of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and Oba Ogunji Road in Berger.

In statements released on Sunday, Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, provided details of the upcoming closures and outlined alternative routes for affected commuters.

The main carriageway from Super Bus Stop to Ilepo Bus Stop on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway will be closed from March 7 to May 30, 2026, to facilitate reconstruction.

“Motorists from Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate heading to Lagos/Oshodi will be diverted into the BRT corridor at Super Bus-Stop and exit at Pleasure Bus-Stop (Ilepo) to continue their journeys,” Osiyemi said.

He also advised motorists to consider additional alternatives: “Motorists from Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate heading to Lagos/Oshodi may also use Ekoro Road to Old Ota Road through Alira Street to link Abeokuta Street and connect to Pleasure Bus-Stop to continue their journeys. Alternatively, they may go through the Abule Egba Underbridge to connect Agege and link their desired destinations.”

In a separate advisory, Osiyemi disclosed plans to upgrade the nine-kilometre dual-carriage corridor between Ojodu Berger Bus Stop and Mobil Filling Station Junction, which will be closed from March 6, 2026, to January 6, 2028, to enable smooth execution of the project.

“Motorists inward Ijaye/Agege through Ogunnusi Road (Ojodu-Berger) will be diverted to move on a contraflow on the Ojodu-Berger-bound carriageway for approximately one kilometre, after which they will regain access to the main carriageway to continue their journeys,” he explained.

He also provided alternative routes for other drivers: “Motorists may use Dr Nurudeen Olowopopo Way to connect to Otunba Jobifele Way, then to Obafemi Awolowo Way, linking Lateef Jakande Road to reach their respective destinations. Articulated vehicle and truck drivers from the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway heading to Agege are advised to go through Ojota/Maryland to link Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, access Kodesoh Street, connect Oba Akran Avenue to Guinness Roundabout, link Ogba Road to Pen Cinema and continue their journeys.”

For commuters travelling from Ijaye/Agege towards Ojodu-Berger, he noted: “They will experience through traffic. However, upon approaching the work zone, they will be diverted to form a contraflow with Ijaye/Agege-bound traffic for approximately one kilometre before regaining full access to the road after the construction area.”

Osiyemi assured that measures would be put in place to handle vehicle breakdowns along the affected corridors and urged motorists to cooperate with traffic management personnel for safety and smooth traffic flow.
