The Lagos State Government has announced a 35-day rehabilitation project on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, with construction expected to begin on Monday, October 19, 2026.
The affected section runs from the Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre axis to Samuel Manuwa Street/BJ. The government has advised motorists to make use of designated alternative routes throughout the duration of the work to reduce traffic congestion.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed the planned rehabilitation in a traffic advisory issued on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
According to the advisory, traffic will be managed through a contraflow system on the Lagos-bound carriageway between Samuel Manuwa Street and Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre while rehabilitation work takes place on the opposite side.
The state government also released alternative routes for motorists travelling from Bonny Camp, Falomo, Eko Hotel and surrounding areas.
Motorists coming from Bonny Camp or Falomo and heading towards Civic Centre and Lekki are advised to pass through Adeyemo Alakija Street by Muri Okunola Park, connect to Adeola Hopewell Street, continue through Akinbo Savage Street and join Bishop Aboyade Cole Street.
They can then access the expressway through School Corner, close to Black Diamond, before proceeding towards Sandfield.
Those travelling from Falomo towards Akin Adesola Street have been advised to use the IMB route and connect to the Coastal Road entrance through Adetokunbo Ademola Street towards the Eko Hotel Roundabout. From the roundabout, motorists can continue through Ajose Adeogun Street and Ligali Street towards Black Diamond School Corner.
Motorists leaving Bonny Camp can also use Ahmadu Bello Way to access the Eko Hotel Roundabout through the IMB/Coastal Road entrance. They are then expected to proceed through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and the Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Eko Hotel Roundabout corridor before connecting to Ajose Adeogun Street and Ligali Street towards Black Diamond School Corner.
The government said motorists travelling from Eko Hotel along Adetokunbo Ademola Street towards Civic Centre would be redirected through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and School Corner near Black Diamond, before continuing towards Sandfield.
Road users exiting through the 1004 gate will also be required to turn left or make a U-turn in front of the gate before proceeding through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street towards School Corner and Sandfield.
For motorists heading from Eko Hotel towards Falomo and Ikoyi, the advisory recommends using Sanusi Fafunwa Street to connect to Akin Adesola Street and continue towards the ramp bridge.
Osiyemi said officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority would be deployed to manage vehicle movement and limit the impact of the rehabilitation on road users.
