The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has intensified its clampdown on environmental violations, sealing several establishments in the Ifako-Ijaiye and Igando areas for persistent cases of noise and air pollution.

The agency announced the development in a post shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, following an enforcement operation carried out on Monday.

Among the sealed premises were the Cherubim and Seraphim (King of Kings) Church located within Georgius Cole Estate, Ifako-Ijaiye; a fufu production outlet shut down for heat and air pollution; and Tyonex Nigeria Limited, situated along LASU–Isheri Road, Igando, which was closed for what authorities described as environmental nuisance.

LASEPA’s General Manager, Babatunde Ajayi, said the enforcement exercise was part of ongoing efforts to protect public health and restore environmental order across Lagos State.

According to Ajayi, the agency had received numerous complaints from residents over continuous noise disturbances from the Cherubim and Seraphim Church despite multiple warnings.

He explained, “I specifically frowned at the Cherubim and Seraphim Church operating illegally within a residential Georgius Cole Estate, Ifako Ijaiye, with several complaints of unabated noise infractions brought against the Church by the residents.”

Ajayi emphasized that while freedom of worship is constitutionally guaranteed, it must be exercised responsibly and without infringing on the rights of others.

He stated, “As much as there is freedom of worship in the State, no individual or association is allowed to infringe on the fundamental rights of others or impact negatively on the health of other neighbours in the name of religious activities.”

The LASEPA boss reaffirmed the agency’s zero-tolerance stance against all forms of environmental pollution, stressing that no violator would be spared, regardless of their status or the nature of their operation.

This latest enforcement comes shortly after the Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office under the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, sealed the sewage and wastewater treatment facility of Yaba College of Technology.

The institution’s facility was shut down for allegedly discharging raw sewage into the environment. Officials revealed that several warning letters had previously been issued to the school, but the management failed to take corrective action, prompting the enforcement measure.

LASEPA reiterated its commitment to ensuring a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for all residents, warning individuals and organizations to adhere strictly to environmental laws or face similar sanctions.
