Former Oyo State governor Rashidi Ladoja has been crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The traditional rites began at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, where Ladoja received the symbolic Akoko leaf.

He was later crowned at the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area.

Governor Seyi Makinde presented him with the staff and instruments of office at a ceremony held at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, on Friday.

Governor Makinde cut short his annual vacation to personally attend the coronation.

The event drew several dignitaries, including the Sultan of Sokoto Abubakar Sa’ad III, who led a delegation of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.

Also in attendance were traditional rulers such as the Alaafin of Oyo Oba Abimbola Owoade, the Oluwo of Iwo Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, the Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom Oba Obateru Akinruntan and the Timi of Ede Oba Munirudeen Lawal, among others.

Former Ogun State governors Ibikunle Amosun and Gbenga Daniel were also present.

Ladoja ascended the throne following the death of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, on July 7.
