Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Adesanya, popularly known as KWAM1, has written to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, urging that the process for selecting candidates to fill the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland stool be conducted in strict accordance with due process.

The veteran musician, through his lawyer Wahab K. Shittu SAN, submitted the appeal in a letter dated January 8, 2026, addressed to the Ogun State Executive Council via the governor. In it, Ayinde requested that the government review what he described as efforts to unlawfully prevent him from being considered for the traditional role.

He alleged that leaders of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House were attempting to disenfranchise eligible members wishing to participate in the nomination process. According to KWAM1, actions taken so far by the Ijebu-Ode Local Government and the ruling house were inconsistent with established procedures.

The musician also criticized directives requiring aspirants to obtain nomination forms and appear before a screening committee, describing these steps as illegal and not provided for under the Chieftaincy Declaration or the Obas and Chiefs Laws of Ogun State.

The letter, titled “Representation Against The Wrongful Attempts Not To Follow Due Process In The Nomination Of Candidates To Fill The Vacancy In The Stool Of Awujale of Ijebuland,” reads in part:

“We remain solicitors to Mr. Wasiu Ayinde Adewale Olasunkanmi Adesanya (hereinafter referred to as ‘our client’), and on whose instructions we write this letter.

“We wish to bring to your notice that the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, in the exercise of his rights pursuant to the relevant provisions of the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State, wrote a letter dated 6th January 2026 with ref no. IOLG/584/11/34 to the Head of Fusengbuwa Ruling House, directing the ruling house to hold the statutory meeting to nominate candidate(s) to fill the vacancy occurring in the stool of Awujale of Ijebuland within 14 days.”

The letter raised concern over a notice allegedly issued by Prince Adeleye Lateef Ademuyiwa, identified as the family’s Public Relations Officer, instructing candidates to collect nomination cards and appear before a screening panel.

“It is surprising that, while members of the family were preparing for this important meeting, one Prince Adeleye Lateef Ademuyiwa… issued a notice directing candidates to pick up nomination cards and appear before a screening committee… The notice stated that the nomination exercise will take place on the 12th of January 2026 at Bisrod Event Centre,” the letter read.

Ayinde’s counsel argued that such directives were not in line with legal requirements. “It is a matter of deep concern to our client that all these illegal directives, which are unknown to the Chieftaincy Declaration, the Obas and Chiefs Laws, and the letter of the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, were included in the family’s letter,” the letter added.

The musician warned that attempts to sideline certain members could spark a crisis. “We wish to emphasize that all members of the ruling house are entitled to attend this important meeting and nominate candidates of their choice… The attempt by certain individuals to hijack the process will certainly create a crisis in what should be a seamless exercise,” the letter said.

Calling for immediate action, KWAM1’s counsel concluded: “We counsel that, in the larger interest of justice and compliance with due process, you take timely steps to address these fundamental concerns that could affect the integrity of the entire process.”

It should be noted that Wasiu Ayinde had previously withdrawn a lawsuit filed at the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu-Ode after the ruling house claimed he was not recognized as a family member.

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House is expected to conduct the nomination exercise on Monday at Bisrod Event Centre in Ijebu Ode, barring any last-minute changes.
