Popular female politician and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief (Mrs) Kemi Nelson is dead.
Mrs Nelson, one of the female members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos State died on Sunday, 17 July, 2022 after protracted battle with cancer.
Mrs. Nelson was a former Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in Lagos under Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
She was also the former Women Leader of the state and South West chapters of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Nelson has been a very close ally of the APC Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for decades.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Lagos, Gboyega Akosile confirmed the death of Nelson on Sunday.
In a tweet, he lamented: “We lost a dear soul to the cold hands of death earlier today. May the soul of the late Chief Mrs. Kemi Nelson, former Southwest Women Leader of the @OfficialAPCNg Rest In Peace and may God grant her immediate family, friends and associates the fortitude to bear this loss.”
Nelson, born on 9 February, 1956, is a Nigerian politician and socialite. Her death occurred three years after her elder sister, Dr Abiodun Laja, died. Laja was one of Nigeria’s most celebrated matriachs and educationists.. She died on Sunday, May 26, 2019, in a highbrow hospital in the United States. Laja, who was the founder and Executive Director of the Lekki British School, Lekki, Lagos, was aged 69.
Meanwhile, late Kemi Nelson was an Executive Director of the Nigerian Insurance Social Trust Fund (NSTIF).
