The embattled deputy governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi has lost the ticket of People’s Democratic Party, PDP to Eyitayo Jegede.

Jegede, who was the party’s flag-bearer for the 2016 gubernatorial election in the state beat Ajayi in a keenly contested primary election where 2111 delegates participated.
He polled 888 votes while Ajayi garnered 657 votes.

The other aspirants include Eddy Olafeso who polled 175 votes, Banji Okunomo who polled 90 votes, Olabode Ayorinde who polled 95 votes, and Boluwaji Kunlere who polled 33 votes, Ebisemi Olusola who polled 29, Erewa Goody who polled 14.
Jegede will now face the incumbent governor, Rotimi Akeredolu who had on Monday emerged as All Progressives Congress candidate.
The chairman of the primary election committee, the governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi while declaring Jegede as the winner urged all other aspirants to close ranks and work on behalf of the primary. Jegede lost to Akeredolu in the 2016 gibernatorial election in the state.

Both Akeredolu, who is seeking re-election and Jegede will have a rematch on October 10, 2020.
