The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced plans to establish a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination centre in Ottawa, Canada, beginning in 2027.
The proposed centre is expected to allow eligible Nigerians living in Canada and other parts of North America to take the UTME without travelling to Nigeria specifically for the examination.
JAMB disclosed the plan on its official social media platforms following a visit by its Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa.
According to the board, the initiative is aimed at making the examination more accessible to Nigerians in the diaspora who intend to pursue tertiary education in Nigeria.
“The proposed centre will make it easier for Nigerians in the diaspora to sit for the UTME without travelling to Nigeria solely for the examination,” the board said.
JAMB said the proposed Ottawa centre formed part of its broader efforts towards “taking Nigerian tertiary education to the world.”
The board explained that the initiative would also help maintain stronger links between Nigerians living abroad and the country’s education system.
It said the move would create “greater opportunities to showcase Nigerian tertiary education internationally.”
JAMB further noted that Nigerians in Canada would have easier access to the examination once the centre becomes operational.
“For Nigerians in Canada, the UTME is coming closer to home,” it said.

JAMB said it was “working towards establishing a UTME examination centre in Ottawa, Canada, expected to commence operations in 2027.”
The board described the project as “a bigger opportunity to strengthen the connection between Nigerians in the diaspora and Nigerian tertiary education.”
It added that the centre would provide “more access” to Nigerians abroad and help reduce some of the difficulties they face when seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
