Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has explained why she chose to put aside her differences with her former husband during their daughter’s wedding, saying she wanted to protect her child from repeating the mistakes of the past.
In an interview with Morayo Afolabi-Brown, the actress said her decision was driven by her belief that certain family patterns can continue across generations if they are not intentionally broken.
Reflecting on her upbringing, Iyabo recalled that her own parents were separated, adding that she was determined to ensure her children experienced a different outcome.
“So I don’t know there’s something called ancestral curses and we African believe it, I believe if you don’t want something to continue you have to be able to break it,” she said.
According to the actress, she had long resolved that the difficulties she encountered growing up and in her own relationships would not define her children’s future.
“I made up my mind whatever situation that had happened cause my dad my mom also you know we’re not together yeah every mistake they had made that I have made my children will not make it.”
