Nollywood actress Ini Edo has addressed the backlash surrounding her latest movie, A Very Dirty Christmas, following criticism from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), which described the title as offensive and disrespectful to the Christian faith.

CAN had argued that Christmas is a sacred period symbolizing purity and redemption, and that linking it with the word “dirty” diminishes its spiritual significance for millions of believers.

The association urged Ini Edo and the film’s producers to reconsider the title, issue a public apology, and treat sacred seasons with the respect they deserve.

Responding via her Instagram page, Ini Edo emphasized that art is meant to provoke thought, spark discussion, and explore the complexities of human experiences.

She stressed that she is a committed Christian and would never deliberately participate in a project that disrespects her faith or the essence of Christmas.

The movie star noted that she is a devoted Christian and her faith is deeply personal to her, hence why she would never knowingly associate herself with any work that seeks to misrepresent, disrespect, or undermine her religion or the essence of Christmas.

Ini Edo further explained that the film’s title is metaphorical, reflecting the narrative and themes explored in the story. She acknowledged CAN’s concerns and expressed respect for the important role of faith in society.

“My beautiful people, let’s not be distracted. The film is a masterpiece. Please come out to watch and support your girl,” she urged her followers.

The actress’s statement highlights her commitment to balancing artistic expression with respect for personal faith and societal values.
