The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has moved the deadline for political parties to submit their candidates for the 2027 governorship and State House of Assembly elections by three days.
The commission announced on Saturday that parties would now have until Tuesday, August 11, 2026, to complete the submission of their candidate lists through its designated online platform.
The extension followed requests from political parties for more time to conclude the process.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Mohammed Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee.
“The submission window, which according to the revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the General Election was originally scheduled to close on Saturday, 8th August, 2026, has been extended to Tuesday, 11th August, 2026,” INEC said.
Meanwhile, the electoral commission has announced the suspension of Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
However, voters who applied to replace lost, damaged or defaced PVCs have until midnight on Sunday, August 9, to download and print replacement copies.
INEC said the deadline would allow it to collate information on downloaded PVCs and prepare final figures for the cards collected before election day.
PVC collection in Osun began at Registration Area centres on July 22 and was initially scheduled to end on July 28. The exercise was later extended to July 31 after voters reported overcrowding and difficulties at some collection points.
Collection subsequently continued at the local government level from August 1 to 7.
The commission also said replacement downloadable PVCs had been provided for voters in Odo-Otin and Ife Central Local Government Areas after PVCs were stolen during attacks on collection centres.

INEC clarified that the stolen cards cannot be used to cast ballots.
“The commission reiterates that the stolen cards cannot be used to vote,” it said.
The electoral body also assured residents that it was fully prepared for the August 15 governorship poll.
“INEC reassures the people of Osun State of its readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible and inclusive governorship election on 15th August, 2026,” the commission stated.
