The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has commenced the distribution of sensitive election materials to the 30 local government areas in Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
INEC National Commissioner overseeing the Osun election, Kunle Ajayi, disclosed this on Friday, saying the exercise was being carried out from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, facility in Osogbo.
Ajayi explained that the distribution was delayed by the late arrival of newly printed ballot papers and other election materials from Abuja.
According to him, the delay followed the recent addition of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, to the ballot after its candidate was included in the race.
He said the commission had now commenced the distribution to ensure that all sensitive materials reached their respective destinations before voting begins on Saturday.
INEC had on Wednesday added SDP candidate Francis Ajala and his running mate, Faseke Oladipo, to the ballot, bringing the number of political parties contesting the election to 15.
The commission subsequently ordered the reproduction of ballot papers and result sheets to accommodate the new candidates.

“Consequently, the ballot papers for the election, scheduled to hold on Saturday, 15th August 2026, are being reproduced to reflect this addition, bringing to 15 the total number of political parties contesting the election.
“The result sheets for the election are also being reproduced alongside the ballot papers to reflect the inclusion of the SDP candidate,” INEC said.
The development comes as the commission intensifies preparations for the August 15 governorship poll, with election materials now being moved to the various local government areas across the state.
