Christ-Mitots International School in Isawo, Ikorodu, Lagos State, has suspended a teacher, Stella Nwadigo, following allegations of physical abuse against a three-year-old pupil, Abayomi Michael.

The incident came to light after a video circulated on social media, showing Nwadigo repeatedly slapping the young boy. The disturbing footage sparked public outrage and prompted swift action from the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, which confirmed the teacher’s arrest.

In a statement on Thursday, the school described the incident as “deeply troubling” and noted that the teacher’s actions were “completely unacceptable and contrary to the values and principles of our school.”

The management announced Nwadigo’s indefinite suspension pending a thorough investigation. They also issued an apology to the pupil and his family, expressing regret and pledging to support them during this time.

To prevent a recurrence, the school outlined several measures, including:

  • Mandatory child protection training for teachers.
  • Emphasis on positive disciplinary practices.
  • Implementation of a confidential whistle-blowing system to report misconduct.

The Ikorodu School management assured the public of its commitment to fostering a safe and respectful learning environment, urging patience as they address the issue comprehensively.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on abuse, urging the public to report similar cases for prompt action.
