Deborah Mbara, the woman whose cancer report was allegedly altered by social media influencer Blessing Okoro, widely known as Blessing CEO, has finally reacted to the controversy.

Her response comes after the Nigerian Medical Association (Delta State chapter) disclosed that the document circulated online by Blessing was not hers but a modified version of a report originally issued to another patient.

According to the association, the report in question was a manipulated copy of Mbara’s medical record, which was allegedly edited to support Blessing’s claims of having stage 4 breast cancer.

The issue began earlier this year when Blessing announced she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and appealed to the public for financial assistance, sharing a medical report as proof.

However, Xinus Medical Diagnostics later refuted the claim, stating that the original document was issued to Mbara in May 2025.

In a video posted on her Instagram page, Mbara, a makeup artist and cancer survivor, explained how Blessing allegedly obtained the report from her.

“Sometime last year, Blessing CEO was in Asaba, and I was her makeup artist,” she said.

“Fast forward to last week, when she started crying that she had cancer and had sold off her properties. My friend reached out to her to check up on her. We even got a doctor on the call to help us educate her and encourage her. I was telling her how God saw me through my own journey and the scars.

“Then she said, ‘Zazi, can you please help me send the report of when you were diagnosed so I could compare it with the one my doctor gave me?’ And I said, ‘OK, no problem.’ Only for me to see it on the internet on Friday that it was my result she doctored to back up the nonsense and the money people were donating to her.”

Mbara also claimed that despite public denials, Blessing had visited her family in Asaba to apologise over the issue.

“She said she doesn’t know me and has never spoken to any of my family,” Mbara said.

“But she was in Asaba on Monday to beg my husband and my family. My husband told her to tender a public apology on social media and confess how everything happened.”

Expressing her disappointment, she added: “I thought I was helping someone in need, not knowing she had a different agenda. This is evil”.

“I was traumatised by her action,” she added.

Mbara further urged the public to disregard false narratives and focus on the truth.

The development adds to the growing controversy surrounding Blessing CEO, as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently stated that no formal petition has been submitted against her despite widespread public outrage.
