Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has stirred reactions online after revealing the personal sacrifices she made while working on her latest blockbuster, Behind The Scenes, which earned more than ₦2.7 billion at the box office.
The interview, which resurfaced on X on Monday, has reignited discussions about the level of dedication needed to succeed in Nigeria’s film industry.
Speaking during an interview with BellaNaija, recorded a few days earlier, Akindele said the movie’s commercial success came after months of relentless effort, sleepless nights and complete commitment to her craft.
“So for me to get all these achievements, for the last movie to cross ₦2.7 billion, it was a lot of sleepless nights for me. A lot of sacrifice, giving my all. I forget to eat sometimes,” she said.
She explained that her work often came before everything else, leaving little room for a social life or personal comfort.
“When I say a lot of work, a lot of giving your all into work,” she added.
Looking back on her journey, Akindele admitted that she put her personal needs aside in pursuit of success.
“I abandoned myself for work. I don’t even make my hair, except I’m going on the red carpet or for something very important. I don’t attend parties. I don’t go to greet people at home. I put everything into work — research, writing, work. I’m neck deep into work.”

The actress said she has only recently started making time for herself again.
“It’s just now that I’m relaxed, feeling fresh, doing the skincare routine, looking beautiful, smelling nice,” she said.
Her comments sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many applauding her discipline and determination, while others said her experience reflected the level of commitment required to excel in the entertainment industry.
Reacting to the interview, @pamilhereen described Akindele as “a very focused woman,” adding, “She’s so smart and intelligent.”
