History was made on December 17, 2021 when a hijab-wearing model, Shatu Garko emerged the 44th queen of the Miss Nigeria Beauty Pageant.
Shatu Garko is passionate about proving that religion and culture are not barriers to following one’s dreams and achieving whatever a person sets out to achieve.
Garko recently celebrated the rare feat of becoming the first hijab model to land a modelling job in Nigeria. She is a horse riding lover who represented the North West region of Nigeria during the pageant.
Before her victory, Garko was working on her eponymous clothing brand. A check on her Instagram page shows that she is principled and a decently dressed model who knows how to combine colours and has a keen eyes for colours.
Her emergence as the 44th Miss Nigeria will further give young and alienated girls the guts to pursue their dreams, an indication that their dreams are valid. An instagram user, @Shakititi said: “She is beautiful too. I am sure she will make Nigeria proud in international pageants”.
