Several people are feared dead following a helicopter crash in Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, October 5, 2026, causing panic among residents of the riverine community, with people reportedly rushing to safety.
Details of the crash remained unclear as of the time of filing this report. The number of people aboard the helicopter was yet to be established, while information on possible survivors was also unavailable.
Sources in the community said efforts were being made to reach the crash site and establish the number of casualties, as well as determine what led to the incident.
“Yes, it’s true. A helicopter just crashed now at Igbokoda, Ondo state,” a resident told SaharaReporters.
The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Abayomi Jimoh, said he was not aware of the incident when contacted but promised to make inquiries.

Igbokoda is a major riverine community and commercial centre in Ilaje, an oil-producing area of Ondo State. Helicopters are commonly used in the area for logistics operations connected to the oil and gas industry.
The latest incident comes amid concerns over aviation safety in Nigeria, following several helicopter crashes recorded in recent years, including incidents involving military aircraft and personnel working in the oil sector.
