Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has officially begun the club elections process, the club announced on Tuesday. Perez, 77, is widely expected to run unopposed, as he has in the last three elections (2013, 2017, and 2021).
A statement from the club read:
“Following a meeting of the Board of Directors held today... the club president has asked the electoral board to initiate the procedure for the convening of elections for club president and board of directors.
Florentino Perez first assumed the presidency in 2000, heralding the club’s iconic “Galactico” era.
After resigning in 2006, he returned in 2009 for a second spell, during which Real Madrid achieved unprecedented success, including six UEFA Champions League titles and five La Liga crowns.
At 77, Perez remains a pivotal figure in the club’s history, credited with transforming Real Madrid into a global powerhouse both on and off the pitch.
The upcoming elections are a formality, with no challengers currently expected to oppose his leadership.
