The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has contained a fire outbreak at Purple Crown Hotel on Balogun Street, along Awolowo Road, Ikeja, with no death or injury recorded.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying the agency received the distress call at about 9:52am.
According to him, a room on the first floor of the hotel was severely affected by the fire before emergency responders arrived at the scene about 10 minutes later.
“Upon arrival, responders discovered that a room on the first floor of the hotel had been severely affected by fire,” he stated.
Oke-Osanyintolu said preliminary findings indicated that an electrical fault might have triggered the fire.
He added that the blaze caused substantial fire and smoke damage to part of the building, but all guests and members of staff were evacuated safely.
“There was no loss of life and no injury recorded. All hotel guests and staff were safely evacuated from the building to the designated muster point,” the statement said.
A roll call was subsequently conducted with the assistance of police officers and emergency responders to ensure that everyone in the building had been accounted for.
The fire was eventually brought under control through a joint operation involving LASEMA’s Tiger Squad, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Nigeria Police.

“The joint operation focused on containing the fire, preventing further spread to adjoining rooms, and ensuring the safety of both occupants and responders,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
Following the incident, authorities restricted access to the building because of the heavy smoke and damage caused by the fire. The affected portion was also cordoned off pending a comprehensive assessment of its structural and electrical condition.
“The situation is now fully under control. The fire has been extinguished and the immediate danger neutralised.
“Normal operations will only resume upon clearance from safety officials.”
The LASEMA permanent secretary praised the emergency agencies for their swift response and coordination, saying their intervention helped prevent the fire from spreading further.
He advised hotel operators, facility managers and business owners to carry out routine electrical checks, maintain fire-fighting equipment and train workers on emergency evacuation procedures.
“Compliance with the Lagos State Safety Commission guidelines remains non-negotiable,” the statement added.
