A fire broke out at the AYM Shafa filling station in the Area 3 district of the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday night, prompting an emergency response from the Federal Fire Service.
The incident, which started at about 10 p.m., was still ongoing at the time of filing this report, with firefighters working to bring the flames under control.
The cause of the fire had yet to be determined.
Personnel of the Federal Fire Service were deployed to the scene to contain the blaze and stop it from spreading to nearby buildings and other facilities.
Confirming the incident, the National Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service, Paul Abraham, said the agency had mobilised its firefighters to manage the emergency while assuring residents that public safety remained its top priority.
“The Federal Fire Service empathises with everyone affected by the ongoing fire incident at AYM Shafa Petrol Station, Area 3, Abuja. We understand the concern this situation may have caused to residents, motorists, business owners, and members of the public, and we assure everyone that their safety remains our highest priority.
“Our firefighters are currently on the ground, working tirelessly and professionally to confine the fire, prevent its spread, and bring the situation under control as quickly and safely as possible,” Abraham said.
He appealed to members of the public to remain calm and keep away from the area to enable emergency responders to carry out their duties without disruption.

“Members of the public are strongly advised to remain calm and avoid panic. We also urge residents and onlookers to stay away from the scene and allow emergency responders sufficient space to carry out their operations without obstruction.
“Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion around the affected area and to cooperate with traffic management and other emergency agencies on the ground.
“The Federal Fire Service is doing everything within its operational capacity to manage the incident effectively. Further verified information will be communicated as more details become available,” he added.
Authorities are yet to confirm whether there were casualties or the extent of damage caused by the fire.
