The Federal Government has begun negotiations with the National Assembly to resolve the controversy surrounding the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Iman Suleiman-Ibrahim, confirmed the development on Friday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, stating that efforts are underway to ensure a fair resolution.

“We’re engaging all stakeholders to ensure that they temper justice with mercy,” she said, describing the situation as unfortunate.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended for six months after alleging that Senate President Godswill Akpabio sexually harassed her—a claim the Senate dismissed on procedural grounds.

The minister emphasised the importance of maintaining female representation in the Senate and expressed confidence in Akpabio’s willingness to facilitate dialogue.

“We’ll be intermediaries to ensure peace reigns,” she added.
