Two years after the passing of Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the designer of Nigeria’s National Flag, the Federal Government has donated N30 million to his family in recognition of his contributions to the nation.

The cheque was officially presented at the late hero’s residence in Elebu, Ibadan, on Thursday by the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, alongside Oyo State NOA Director, Olukemi Afolayan.

Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, who passed away on August 29, 2023, at the age of 87, was earlier promised a national burial and financial support by President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The donation, according to Issa-Onilu, is a gesture of appreciation rather than payment for his patriotic service.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Pa Akinwunmi Akinkunmi, son of the late legend, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for fulfilling the government’s promise.

Further details are expected to follow.
