The Federal Government has lauded Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele following the outstanding box office run of her film, Behind the Scenes.
In a message posted on Monday via its X account, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) described the milestone as a major breakthrough for Nigeria’s entertainment industry and a clear sign of the increasing global visibility of Nigerian films.
The agency disclosed that the movie has generated over ₦2.1 billion in Nigeria, making it the first Nollywood title to cross the ₦2 billion mark.
“Behind the Scenes has officially crossed ₦2.1 billion at the Nigerian box office, making history as the first Nollywood film ever to hit the ₦2 billion mark,” the statement read.
Beyond its domestic success, the NOA noted that the film also recorded encouraging numbers internationally.
“The flex did not stop at home; the movie also showed modest global muscle, raking in over $111,256 in Canada and an impressive $190,249 across North America.
“From Lagos to Toronto, from cinemas in Abuja to theatres overseas — this movie had everyone locked in,” the agency added.
The NOA further highlighted that the achievement reinforces Akindele’s status as a trailblazer, noting that she has now topped the African box office for three consecutive years — a first for any filmmaker on the continent.

Describing the development as a proud national moment, the agency said the success of Behind the Scenes reflects Nollywood’s steady expansion and the strong global appeal of Nigerian storytelling.
The government’s praise follows widespread positive reactions to the 2025 film, which has continued to dominate cinemas locally while making a strong impression in international markets.
Earlier reports on January 12 confirmed that Akindele had secured her place in African cinema history after Behind the Scenes crossed the ₦2 billion box office milestone.
