FC Barcelona’s efforts to secure Spain star Dani Olmo’s registration took a hit as La Liga confirmed the club failed to comply with budgetary rules required for his registration beyond December 31, 2024.
FC Barcelona signed a marquee addition last summer, Dani Olmo’s registration under La Liga’s strict financial controls was temporary, tied to an exception utilizing 80% of injured defender Andreas Christensen’s wages.
However, Barcelona proposed €100 million financing plan through VIP seat sales at their future Camp Nou failed to gain traction quickly.
A Barcelona and commercial court had earlier denied the club’s requests for an extension.
Despite the Catalan giants submitting alternative registration documents to the Spanish football federation, LaLiga announced on Tuesday that no compliant solutions had been presented for registration after January 2, 2025.
Olmo’s contract, which extends to 2030, reportedly includes a release clause activated by registration failure.
The 26-year-old’s potential exit threatens Barcelona’s title hopes, as he contributed five La Liga goals this season and played a key role in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph.
Barcelona also faces a similar registration dilemma with forward Pau Victor, adding to their administrative woes amid their ongoing financial struggles.
